Translation is a hard-to-get skill that is not given to everyone. The fact that you speak two languages doesn’t make you a translator. If you haven’t taken any translation courses and attempt to translate, your translations will contain a lot of meaningless words such as “umm”, “err”, “that thing..you know”. Sometimes, translations (mostly literal) turn into the funniest thing when they go horribly wrong. In this article, we compiled some of the funniest examples of translation gone wrong to make you appreciate the job translators are doing. Grab some snacks, it’s gonna be a long list!

#29 is a correct translation. It is just that the context is not understood.
#29 – A “wang-wang” is an emergency vehicle light, like that on a police car or ambulance. However, some VIPs illegally put such lights on their vehicles to get through traffic even if they have no emergency. When they say NAIA. (Abbreviation of the airport’s name) is an no “wang-wang” zone, they do not recognise VIP vehicles. Meaning, VIPs will not be allowed to cut the line only because they flash emergency lights. To do so will get them apprehended by airport police and embarrassed when shamed for cutting the line.
No. 12 was appearently written by Basil Fawlty.
